1989 BMW 325 trans won't shift

My 1989 325i auto trans will not shift out of low gear when it is cold. seems to shift ok when it has warmed up. how can I remedy this problem?

The valve body in the transmission is in need of cleaning and perhaps a broken spring in the valve body.
