1988 BMW 325 Rear Brake Lights Don't work

I recently bought a the above vehicle, the brake light warning light stays on in the vehicle and when I step on the brake pedal the rear lights don't work. I checked the bulbs and fuses and still no result, Where do I go from here? How do you adjust/check the brake light switch and what tools do i need?

Warning light On -could be low fluid in brake M/C-No brake lights check the brake switch on the brake pedal support.
