When transmission gets hot it will not shift. Does the manual tranny have a filter? What and how do I check the fluid? Is it a typical manual transmission servicing procedure and what type fluid should I use? Is amsoil compatible with the BMW parts or not?

There isn't a filter. There are two plugs, one is the drain, the other is the fill plug, remove the fill plug (on the side of the transmission) to check the level. It is a typical service. I have no issues with amsoil products and the tranny does not either.
