My expansion tank split two days after the repair shop changed the anti-freeze. Could they have caused this? Is this something I fix myself without special tools?

I doubt very much if they had anything to do with the tank failure, it is a typical failure. No need for special tools other than the fan clutch tool and it is left hand thread.
