My 320 touring (E46 model) has the rear screen wiper.
Today this just stopped working. The wiper blade can be moved quite freely as if there is no resistance from a motor. When I switch on the wipers I can hear a motor noise from the rear.
Is this a know fault? Is it likely to be mechanical or a motor failure?

There is a nut at the pivot of the wiper arm, try tightening it and see what happens, be sure to tighten it in the "park" position.
