This will require removing the door panel and inspecting the window regulator and the channel felt. There are two screws hidden behind finisher plugs at the center of the panel where your hand would go to when you pull the door shut and inside the "cup" at the inside door release. Then "pop" the panel loose by starting at the bottom with a plastic wedge inserted and work up to the top. Be prepared to have the top piece come unglued, the older E-36 all have this weakness, I usually epoxy them back on. Carefully remove the vapor barrier, it will need to be reused.
