You should be checking and re adjusting the valve clearances, replacing the spark plugs, air & fuel filter, check the ignition leads for high resistance, check the distributer cap for cracks and tracking marks, check the rotor foe burning on the tip, check ignition timing, check belts, check that the exhaust manifold & flange are tight and not leaking, pressure test the cooling system. and while your at it change the engine oil & filter.
