Last year the ses light came on and it was obvious the car was running on 3 cylinders. For a kings ransom the dealership changed an ignition coil. Last week the same happened again. After about 80 miles I have fitted a genuine bmw replacement. the engine is running sweet again but the ses light has stayed on and I don't know why?

Any ideas?

Well would you believe it. I ran the car for about 5 miles, switched the engine on and off again and the light cleared. Sorted, thanks for the replies.

The fault that commanded the SES lamp on may not be currently present and the fault needs to be cleared so that the lamp will go out, it may not go out by itself.
