My car is burning oil like no tomorrow and I have taken it back to the garage which I bought from twice and the problem still hasnt been rectified. Im worried that it is a serious problem that will cost a lot of money and the garage will try to fob me off

Hi there,

If you are burning a lot of oil the chances are that the piston rings are faulty, you may have a few broken rings as apart from sealing the cylinder for compression they also control the oil on the cylinder walls, and if faulty oil will enter the cylinder and be burnt, if this is the case a re build is the only option to fix this correctly, Have a leak down test done as this will give a good indication as to the condition of the rings, also a wet compression test will also be a good indication, start here.
