1998 BMW 318 1998 318Ti BMW ! inside a Gear Wheel comes

Transmission problem
1998 BMW 318 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 96K miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
When drive it drives fine, but when slow down it knocks with a Jerk in E - mode and also the ! mark inside the Gear wheel light comes. Hopefully it is a do with transmission, any recommended advice.

What is the EGS system, how to use it.

The Electronic Gear Control module has faults and they can be scanned with proprietary software. You might have to go to the dealer or an independent shop with the right equipment. Use the telephone and the internet for finding these resources in your area.

I would first replace the hot film sensor and the pre-cat 02 sensor, clear the faults and drive the car to see if this solves the problem. At 96k, the oxygen sensor is possibly biased towards the lean side. The load signal can be ignored at this time.
