1997 BMW 318 Noise from the engine

I have a BMW 318ti and the car's revs starts dropping when the engine heats up or i stop at the lights ie when idle. There is a loud whistling noise as well that comes from the engine and the whole thing shakes. There was a cat converter that rattled alot and i changed it but the is still happening. any help
