1997 BMW 318 my car will stall when on idle?

i basicaly have a bmw 318 i touring estate, and it was driving fine today, until it staled at a red traffic light, and when i try to turn it on it basically dies on me pretty much after a few seconds. i dont know what the problem could be, but im thinking it can be fixed? sinceit hapend on my bike and i found out it was to do with the carburetor, is it the same with cars? i mean my car? please help me, i turn the car on and i have to keep on revving for it not to die, otherwise it will die. please help me out thanks

Check and test your Idle speed control valve and the throttle position sensor and mass air sensor.
