Transmission problem
1992 BMW 318 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 155k miles

I just bought my 92 318is which runs fantastic for the miles of just over 155k. All gears BUT 2nd are smooth to shift into. When I go to shift, it grinds when going into 2nd. However when I allow the rpm's to drop under 1500 and coast it shifts smooth with no grinding. Possible issues?

Sounds like a worn or broken syncrhonizer. Could also be a faulty clutch, but this would normally cause issues with all gears.

A switch to Redline oil in the gearbox might help and it's cheaper than a new transmission! ♥
