1987 BMW 318 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

My BMW loses spark from the positive coil terminal, we did put on a new wire, but it is missing now. Before it wouldn't start or idle, it sounds like a dead plug but it is new plugs and it keeps on throwing the spark away please help

Please send the vin. The 318 was not in production in 1987 in the US market and the engine designation is needed to offer an opinion.
