I just wanted to ask about the reliability of listed above. I am interested in purchasing a Golf SE 1.6L Bluemotion technology diesel. It has only done 34,000 miles and is going to be purchased from a garage. I wanted to know whether the car is good for regular city driving and occasional motorway driving. I ask this because a friend of mine is a mechanic and he said there a long term issues with DPF filters associated with Bluemotion technology in golfs so just wanted a second opinion.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

They are great vehicles which get excellent fuel mileage. However, your friend is correct. There have been a few issues with the DPF plugging. Honestly, I haven't seen the issues. This is what I have been told.

They are pretty reliable. We do replace DPF frequently at higher mileage but DPF's aren't lifetime parts, they are recommended to be replaced at 180,000km in North America.

Do you know if the vehicle in question had any major recalls where the DPF was replaced? All of the ones in North America were recalled and repaired.
