Looking to buy. Seller says truck is burning oil. Says when going uphill is the only time you see it coming from exhaust. Also says check engine light on for EVAP system but no other codes. Concerned if I should stay away from this vehicle. Cost of repairs?

Hi,

First, Buyer Beware. The idea that it only burns oil going up hill could indicate the valve seals are bad and the oil at the top of the cylinder head isn't draining quickly enough back into the oil pan. Open the oil fill cap and take a flashlight to see how dirty it is inside. If it is black and corroded, it hasn't been maintained properly.

Next, ask if you can take the vehicle to a parts store where they will scan the computer for free. Most will. Have it scanned and let me know what codes are found. That way I can better direct you.

I don't know where you are located, but a check engine light or EVAP issue will not allow the vehicle to pass inspection. Let's find out for sure what it is before you purchase it.

Let me know what the codes are and what the engine looks like inside.

Take care and God Bless,

Joe
