I had water in my gas tank and emptied it, cleaned it, replaced fuel pump and filter but car was still missing and started to hesitate and hard to pick up speed. I clamped the return fuel line and it drove great. Set out on a five hour trip to my brothers and half way there my car cuts off cruising on the interstate and would not start again. My brother finds the distributor coil fuse is blown. We replace it and it gets me about one hundred miles and cuts off again. Next morning it starts right up gets me five miles blows again. Then it blows about ten fuses trying to start it and thought I saw smoke come somewhere around the camshaft sensor or throttle position sensors. Now there is no hope in cranking until I find the problem. I was told to check the ground. Where is that? Also told it may be the EMC I had it put on computer at O'Riellys and it gave thirteen errors some repeated but they were mass air flow, throttle, o2 sensor, something about banks. Help!

Are you sure this is the 1.8l because from what I read it is the 2.0l that has the distributor.
Anyhow, I think the ground for the camshaft position sensor and other sensors is on the intake manifold, so see if that ground is loose, rusted, etc. Is that fuse #34 in the fuse and fusible link box under the hood, left side? If so, try a new ECM relay.

It was the idle control valve and still traces of water in the gas line. I used a bottle of "heat"" and unplugged the idle switch until I can order the part and it runs fine. Thanks
