Blower motor resistor replacement?

I'm changing the blower motor resistor and what I see is the piggy has five prongs? The new resistor piggy has seven prongs, and the wires are as follows: 2 white, 1 black, 1 white, 1 black, 1 white, 2 black. The prior piggy has color wires! I'm confused at this point! Help!

Sounds like you have the wrong part. There are at least three different parts for those. They are not interchangeable either. If yours had five wires it isn't a resistor unit, it is actually a control module. The 5-pin part GM 22754990 fits the automatic AC systems that you just set to a temperature, and it does the rest on auto mode while the seven pin units fit the manual control units that have manual temperature controls and fan speed. Both are shown in the attached images.
