Do you mean the driver's side cannot have the temperature changed or that the passenger side is stuck on cold? If it's that the left side doesn't change then it can be 2 things, the actuator or more commonly the plastic linkage that it moves to operate the door. To get to it isn't hard, you remove the trim panel under the steering column, disconnect the aspirator connection and the actuator and linkage will be visible behind the wiring on the side of the HVAC case. Then move the controls and see if the actuator moves but the linkage doesn't or if it's just the actuator. Most kits come with all the pieces but there are a few that don't. Now if it's the actuator itself you remove the screws and then the actuator. Reverse the process with the new one. If it's the linkage that has failed, you just push the small tab up and slip the two pieces off the shafts. Then install the replacements. If the linkage is the problem don't replace the actuator, OE parts are generally much better than aftermarket.
Now if it's on the right side it's a bit harder as you need to remove the glove box and work through the hole. You need to remove the trim on the side of the console first, then you can get to the fasteners for the glove box. Remove those and the actuator and its linkage is inside on the HVAC case. Same process as the left side from there. Work the controls and see what is moving. If it's the linkage only replace it. If it's the actuator replace it.
For these parts I try to stay with OEM as the aftermarket ones sometimes don't work properly with the control systems.
