The microprocessor on my BCM is heat sensitive. Fails when warm, starts and runs just fine when cool.

Can you give me the eBay information for the repair service? I am not finding it when I search for BCM repair.

There probably is no such thing for your car. GM is one of those companies with a lot of customer-unfriendly business practices. One of them is they do not make it possible for any shop, other than those they authorize, to repair their computers. They want you to buy a new computer through the dealer, and when necessary, have it programmed by them.

ModuleExperts online quoted $199.95 plus shipping both ways to replace and reprogram the microprocessor. A previous answer on this website mentioned an eBay service so I was trying
to get another price quote as the reviews of ModuleExperts are horrible and I do not want to get stuck paying for sub-standard service.

I understand. You might look at United Radio in Syracuse, NY. They are one of the repair facilities authorized by GM. A lot of dealers send their stuff to them. I have never sent them anything myself.

The other one is Instrument Sales and Service in Kent, WA. I have also used Advanced Auto Electronics out east. They were able to repair a digital instrument cluster that United Radio could not for lack of parts.

I've used United Radio and Advanced Auto myself. Both good shops. Never had any real issues with either.

Do you need the engine computer? That would be the ECM (Engine Control Module) or the BCM (Body Control Module) That may be why you don't find much. Don't forget to check the parts stores, I see at least two who show reman units for less than your first repair quote.

Buying a new BCM vs repairing existing would then require an additional charge for programming. Some dealers won't even program parts that were not purchased thru them. A local shop specializing in Saturn repairs quoted $125 just to program a new BCM. I found a module repair business in Arvada Colorado which is just a short drive from where I work so I'm going to drop it off for repair on Monday. They're quoting one day service, $175 including testing, repair and shipping but I will pick it up when it's done. If this works out like I hope it does, I'll update this site with their name and contact info.

You may want to double check that they are programming it, once they replace the chip(s) that box will be "stupid" and need to be reflashed. Most repair places assume you can do that. If this place is replacing bad chips and reflashing the box for 175, you are getting a great deal.
