Battery - Take out - Retainer Bolt

if you don't have a six sided socket that is the thing to try. if you have a half inch six sided try that. if not there are special sockets with a roll pin inside that will lock onto a rounded bolt head.

I know how to use a socket wrench...the bolt just keeps on turning and not releasing from the base. I think it must of broke or something....I don't know...it's not budging.

(found out it is my alternator) bummed.

ok misunderstood, there is a weld nut on bottom where bolt goes in, you might try using a small crescent wrench or maybe a 13/14 mm open end wrench to hold it while trying to turn bolt. No sure how much room is there for tools to reach it but I thin enough to get something in there. Also if you think alternator is bad check the fusible link to it first just probe the large red wire and if it gets battery voltage it's ok if not it's by the starter.

Yes I tried the 13mm crescent wrench, both sides, I was only able to move it ever so slightly, but this also let me see that the skirt of the bold does not move with the bolt, I think it must of broke from it's skirt somehow? I've tried lots of different things...yesterday I checked to make sure it wasn't any of the fuses that had blown...so I knew I was going to be fiddling around today.
Neighbour came and boosted the van...it started...it's the alternator...brought it in the shop and getting one installed today! if I do need a battery replacement, they can fiddle around now with that silly bolt. ;o)

if worst comes to worst they can cut the bolt with a rubber wheel( grinding disc) then fix it after the battery is out
