battery light stays on with engine turned off.

battery went dead after jumping the vehicle and running for extended period of time I shut engine off and noticed that the battery light was on. when engine is running the battery light is out.Replaced the battery and the same thing happens.What causes this light to stay on when the engine isn't even running. Thank you for your help.

check alternator it may be bad like the diode bridge inside.and check fusible link going to it. also check fuses under hood
