Battery light on/intermittent battery light?

I’ve changed my alternator numerous times a few times because the piece of the connector was broken off the alternator. Had a battery test done before I replaced the alternator the battery was good and did a test to see if it was charging properly, it wasn’t. It wasn’t charging up to 14v it was around 12v we changed the alternator battery light when off but still wasn’t charging properly so I dug deeper with the test my voltage regulator was fluky, but my light still isn’t on. Fast forward to yesterday the battery light comes on today I decided to take my battery to get tested again, it is a good battery they said, and it is just being charged right now but can anyone explain what is happening I don’t have a blown fuse or anything. *Update* drove it today to work battery light didn’t come on until I left for work, also if I accelerate fast from take off it’ll come on. Hi,

The voltage regulator is integral to the powertrain control module. What I need you to do is check if it is charging properly when the battery light is on. If it isn't and the alternator is new and does the same thing as the prior alternator, chances are the PCM is the issue.

Here is a link that explains how to test the alternator. Try it both ways, with the light on and then again when it's off.

It is my voltage regulator? Should I get it flashed to get it working again?

Hi,

If you have confirmed it is the regulator, the powertrain control module (PCM) will need to be replaced and programmed. They are non-repairable. Well, I guess if you are good with working with printed circuit boards (PCB) and can find the spot that is failing internally, it could be fixed, but that one would be your call. LOL Chances are there is a cracked solder joint on the PCB that is making contact on and off, causing this to be an intermittent issue.

I have a lifetime warranty on my PCM, so should I just swap it?

Hi,

If you have a warranty, yes, switch it out. The only thing is I don't know if you will be getting one pre-programmed. If it isn't, then it will need to be programed.
