What could cause the battery to not start the buick? If the battery is unhooked and rehooked the car will start. It just grinds to start if the battery is left in it and will not start.

Hi,

It sounds like there is a parasitic power draw on the battery. Basically, a circuit is causing a constant drain on the battery even when things are turned off. This can be caused by a short, bad switch or faulty component.

The best thing to do is to check how much of a draw is on the battery with everything turned off on the car. Then, remove one fuse at a time to see which one stops the draw. Then you will know which circuit is causing the issue. From that point, it is much easier to narrow down.

If you look through this link, it explains in detail how to find and repair a parasitic power draw. Take a look through it and let me know if you are comfortable doing it.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,
