This is a 1979 dodge flair motorhome with 63,650 original miles on it. I replaced the alternator; it runs idling until it discharges battery. I didn't check fusible link at battery unplugged shuts off immediately after. What's the problem?

Good morning,

I don't know if you know this; removing the battery cable while the engine is running never tells you anything and can damage the modules from a voltage surge.

Use a test light or voltmeter and verify the power to the back of the alternator. The engine should die when the battery is disconnected.

I attached a guide for you on the charging system. It gives you good information on testing.

With the engine running, you should have 14 to 14.5 volts. Please confirm that and let me know.
