That is because nothing needs to be initialized when connecting the battery. Now if you are taking abut programming when the car is initially set up that is another can of worms.

Just to add to this one it is also going to vary from car to car. for instances on newer Volkswagen cars after reconnecting the battery you have to reset the steering angle sensor. Also reset the comfort settings for the power windows for one touch up and one touch down.

As stated, it depends a lot on the vehicle and what options it has. For instance on that Accord you will lose the radio stations and clock so those need to be reset. It will need to relearn idle speed as well.

If you are doing only a battery replacement on any modern car, the best solution is to use either a jump pack, spare battery or an external power source connected in parallel with the current battery. Either by connecting to available jumper terminals or the main battery feed at the fuse box or on the rear of the alternator/generator unit and a good ground point. That way the vehicle never sees a power loss and all of the memories and learned items are kept.
