My car is five and half years old, with just 5,200 miles on it. Should I get a new battery, not ever having a problem?

If it is the original battery it is probably getting to the end of its expected life. you can get it load tested and this will give a very good indication of battery condition and viability. if you have any doubts go get a new battery fitted and also have the alternator charge rate check as well.
