Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

If you are hearing a banging noise over bumps, suspect a broken coil, worn shock mount, worn rubber bushing, or broken stabilizer link.

Take a look through this link to see if anything helps.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

Hi,

It sounds like a broken spring. The vehicle should sit level. Confirm that the coil spring is not broken.

If you can take a picture of the underside of the vehicle, it would help me direct you.

Cheers,
Joe

I have checked the coil springs. On the drivers side it has a brand new coil spring and strut and on the nearside the coil spring is broken with original strut.

Welcome back:

That is your noise. I am not sure why only one was replaced. Shocks/struts should be done in pairs. Regardless, either you need to disassemble the strut assembly and replace the coil or you can purchase the complete strut assembly.

Let me know if there is something I can do to help.

Take care,
Joe

The knocking sound still comes from the os rear after the nearside coil spring was replaced. When the car was up on the ramp they lifted the os rear wheel up with their hands and there was a knocking sound they done the same on ns rear wheel but wasn't a knocking sound. He also used a steel bar and could see and feel play from rear axle. There saying rear axle is knackered and will need replacing for mot. And also still can't fit hand between os rear wheel and chassis.

That is interesting. Can you take a picture of the parts which were replaced and the axle that is in question so I can try to see what is going on? If the coil was broken and a new one installed, how is it the same height? Is there a mount where the coil sits that may be broken?
