Two days in a row when coming home from work there was a loud bang and then a warning light came on my dash (think it is a gearbox light). When the car is restarted the warning light goes off and the car drives normally. Sometimes the car judders but not all the time.

You would need to get it scanned at a shop and see what codes are showing for the transmission. It could be something that is an easy repair like a fluid change or a sticking solenoid valve. Or it is possible that the transmission is failing and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Banging is not a good sign though.
