Hard first rpm to second rpm shift, but after it catches the second rpm it runs great. Also the check engine light is on.

Hello, I'm Danny.
Having the check engine light on means there is a trouble code stored in your cars computer.Since you say it shifts hard it could be a transmission trouble code.If you don't have access to a scanner/code reader most auto parts stores will check for free (AutoZone). Here is a tutorial showing what is involved:
