SUV is backfiring

Backfiring blowing the valve cover gasket's out. Combustion fumes in my crank case.

more information on when the back fire happens, has any work been done on the ignition system? An inlet back fire often is a cross firing ignition or even a burnt inlet valve. have you done a compression test as yet to prove cylinder integrity?
