Well when I bought the van I was told old fuel or trash in fuel filter so I needed to use starter guild to start it. It worked well for months then last week I went to perform the same steps and the van backfired and knocked out what looks like a screen protector of such. I took that out and restarted van which backfired and caught fire. I'm currently afraid to try to restart it.

You have a distributor ignition so more than likely it is either mistimed or the plugs are 180 degrees off. Did you do anything with the timing?

Here are some guides on backfires. However, I suspect the timing is the issue so I would suggest advancing the timing just a bit and then restarting. It should start and run long enough to figure out any other issues.
