I was coming off a freeway and put my car in neutral on the off ramp, when I tried to go in first gear after I stopped it made a bang sound and was real jerky front to back feeling. I made it home. I tried to back out of the driveway. It went three feet and felt like it was locked up, but I put it in first gear after that and I could roll it back in the driveway, but it still felt like I was driving against a brick wall. What could be the issue?

It sounds like one of the CV axles has come apart or the transmission has had an internal issue. Let's raise the front of the car and spin each front wheel while in natural to see if one of them is locked up and makes a strange noise when spinning.

I've never had any transmission issues before, smooth as silk. I did have a brake caliper warp and could have caused damage to the cv. I was thinking that scenario but I'm very novice when it comes to troubleshooting vehicles, too many variables. I'll try the wheel spin thing tomorrow when stores are open, and I can get a heavy-duty jack.
