Automatic transmission delayed in changing gears. Stay's too long in gear and high rpm's. I also notice a high fuel consumption. Last two months my car had an idle problem swinging between 1,200 and 2,000 rpm's. This happen while driving the car and also in the garage.

I did the following:

First thing I did was cleaning the ICV but it did not help to solve the problem.
Purchased and installed new MAF Sensor, TP Sensor and EGR (ICV). I also bought a set of two O2 oxygen sensors but unfortunately this car does not use O2 oxygen sensor.
By doing all these changes, there was absolutely no change in the rpm's. Last, two weeks ago I notice a big spill of transmission oil on the floor, and after cleaning this I did a check to see where the spill is coming from. The oil pan gasket and oil seal ware okay and I could not find where the leak was coming from.
Three days after the first leak I got another big spill and this time I notice that it came from the vehicle/transmission speed sensor. The o-ring seal of the vehicle/transmission speed sensor was broken and I bought a new o-ring seal. Due to this I decide to change the transmission oil and transmission filter. I have added the “Lucas Transmission Fix” to the transmission oil after reading some good reviews of this product. After all of these I went for a test drive and the Idle seems to be okay, but the transmission stays to long in a gear before changing. I notice also that with a very soft touch on the gas paddle, sometimes the rpm's can go very high. I am driving the car for one and a half week and it still delayed in changing gears. During driving without giving more gas, the rpm's go high and stay for a long time in the gear before changing gears.
Hope to have informed you accordingly.
Nel.

Hello,

It sounds like you have a turbine speeds sensor that is out in the transmission which will not cause a check engine light.

Here is the location of the sensor.

Check out the diagrams (below).

Please run this test and get back to us.

Cheers, Ken

Dear Ken,
Many thanks for your reply which I highly appreciated.
The image is not so clear for me, but do you mean the "vehicle/transmission speed sensor"? (See my pictures)
Is the "vehicle/transmission speed sensor" the same as the turbine speeds sensor and the vehicle speedometer sensor H1-03?
Is the "input/turbine speed sensor" H1-04 another sensor?
Please run this test and get back to us.

There are two sensors the one in the photo is the output shaft speed sensor or the VSS. Does the speedometer work okay? If so replace the input or turbine speed sensor. I do not know why I said run this test. Lol

Hello Ken,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the speedometer is working fine.
I did a test by pulling the plug out and it stops working and remain back when push the plug back in its place.
Would you please show me where the second sensor is located?
And what is the name of this sensor?
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks again.
You are awesome my friend.
Thumbs up.

Did you check for trouble codes? Some codes do not trigger the check engine or transmission light. They are only recorded in the transmission control module.

Hi Ken,
Nice to have you back.
Both images are the same place.
As I indicate before; first picture is the sensor unplugged (see yellow sign).
Second picture is the mounting hole without the sensor. Hole without the sensor. Hole without the sensor.

Car information:
Vin # JM7BJ10M230220517
Mazda 323 F, GLX
Made in Japan
Year 2003
Gasolin
Motor: ZL1
4 cilinder, 1.8 Ltr
Automatic Transmission

Note: Please visit Zzap. Ru and type the VIN #.
Select # 13 - 1920

Do you think that one of these sensors are giving this problem.
The Speed Sensor is doing well otherwise I do not get the speed-o-meter working.
The second sensor is called "Generator pulse sensor".
Maiby this is the problem.
Do you know how to test it?
Waiting for your reply.

Okay great, a pulse generator is the same as a speed sensor so if the speedometer is working okay that is the sensor I would replace.

Clear the codes after you install it and let me know how it goes.

Dear Ken,

First of all I think there was a malfunction/error with this site.
I will repeat my previous reply.

Thank you very very much for a professional assistance in order to have my car fixed.

After a long time of waiting for my order and a short vacation in between I got the Pulse Generator Sensor installed.
I can tell you that I am very sad and disappointed after the test-drive.
There is absolutely no change at all in the way the car is changing gears after installed the new Pulse Generator Sensor.
Still delaying to go over to the next gear.

As you now I did a lot trouble shooting, renewing sensors and other parts.
But I still appreciating your professional assistance and still positive that together as a team we can fix it.

Hope to have informed you accordingly.
Waiting for your soonest reply.
Many many thanks Ken.
Regards and have a nice day.

Nel.

I had a thought that it could be excessive back pressure in the exhaust due to a bad catalytic converter which will change the shift points. Here is a guide to help check it:

Please let us know what happens.
