With that low of mileage it would not be an issue to change it out as it is not that far off the service interval. I would change the fluid and filter as applicable. If it has the CVT transmission, those are very picky as to the fluids used. I tend to tell folks with those to have a dealer do that service just to have the paperwork in the event they have an issue with that transmission.

I am not sure if it was serviced or not after 97,000 miles. So should I change it or just top up when it low? Some experts recommend that when auto transmission fluid that not replaced regularly at service interval preferable to do not change because some additives in new fluid may loosen crud in the transmission which may cause problems in transmission operation at next thousand miles.

It should be okay to change the fluid as long as the transmission is shifting okay. Most of the time the issue you describe happens when a transmission is already starting to fail and the fluid and filter are a last ditch effort to "fix" it.
