Repaired shift indicator on my 1974 GMC 3/4 ton 4WD Automatic. Now as the on-the-column gear shift goes thru the gears, you can feel and even hear the detent for each gear, but the engagement is not enough to move the vehicle. There must be some gear engagement as the motor will slow as go to the lower ranges from drive, especially noticible for gears 2 and 1. Manual says DO NOT DRIVE if clutches are not fully engaged, ruin the tranny. In my repair I only worked at the shift indicator on the column. I used the manual to check at the tranny that the shifting rod was properly positioned and working the gears (it was). I was repairing wiring behind the dash, then shift indicator on steering column. Is there an electrical cut-out I might have shorted? Vince on Vancouver Island
