I went to use the car yesterday. When turning on the fan is blowing at high and the heat / AC controls will not come on (no lights on the panel, no buttons or dials work), it is as if the auto start fan is stuck. No clue what happened or what could be tried before taking it to a shop.

This sounds like the IPDM has gone out but there are 7 fuses that run the system we need to check first. Here is a guide to help and the fuse locations as well. Start with fuse # 30, 14, 25, 17 and 27 in the fuse panel on the lower left side of the dash fuse panel. This guide will help please check the fuses with the key on:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

If these are okay, please check fuses #53 and #48 in the IPDM if these are okay, we should do a CAN scan to confirm the IPDM failure you can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

and

Here is a list of CAN scanners starting at about $25.00 on Amazon:

Here is the location of the fuses and how to change out the IPDM which is easy because it-self learns. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.
