engine is not cranking over

When trying to start car, it is not always starting, but after pressing the selector buttons ie drive, reverse and neutral until it engages in to neutral, then will start. Need to know what is causing this problem. Thanks

Hello,

When you say it will not start do you mean the engine will not turn over (starter) or the engine cranks over but will not run? Here are two guides to help us get started on fixing the problem:
