Replaced oil and coolant on 5/13/08. Have loss of power around 4-5 thousand rpms. Car stalls and has smoke from the exhaust.

Any ideas on what my problem could be and if it is safe to drive until the dealer can look at it.

Thanks,
David

Hello,

There could be several different reasons why you are experiencing the low power around certain RPM range.

It could be an issue with the transmission. The control module for the transmission.
It can also be due to any of the engine control sensors.
Your vehicle could be in limp-mode in order to protect the engine.

Is your service engine light illuminated?
Typically when there is low power or limp mode there engine light will come on.
By scanning for trouble codes can point you to the right direction.

As for if it is safe to drive, it will all depend on the component that might have failed. You might do further damage to other components if you drive with out addressing the issue. But it will all depend on what's might be going on.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
