The power steering just went out in my audi a6. Fluid level is ok but a light that looks like a battery has come on the dashboard in the speedometer area. What is going on?
Thanks

Inspect your drive belts. Sounds like one may have come loose or broken. Also need to have charging system checked. Most part stores will do this for free of charge.

Let me know how the belts and charging system are and I will follow up.

I checked and I've got a belt just sitting in front of the engine block not hooked to anything. How hard are these to replace?

An estimate for repairing your belt is around $200 at dealer. Less at smaller repair shops. If you would like to perform the repairs yourself I can post the procedures and you can decide if you are capable of doing it safely and correctly. Replacing belt takes an experienced mechanic around 2 hours.
