There is a moldy, musty odor from vents while using AC. I noticed that there never seems to be liquid drained to the outside from the evaporator. The mechanic says the drain tube is not plugged. In this type of car what triggers the evaporator to drain the liquid? Is there a sensor which controls this? Thanks

No it drains out via gravity. As the evap removes moisture it collects and fan air flow helps drain.
