The variable storage compartment is the the down postion. The Convertible top is operational and the control lever moves freely however when moving the lever to the left ( up postion) the storage compartment does not retract. There must be a gear or cable that has come loose. How do I access to reengage or otherwise repair.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I am not an Audi tech and we do not have one just now to answer your question, but i will see what i can do for you, can you please look at the pic and indicate the part that concerns you, it looks to me that the full operation is hydraulic and a ram may have come become disconnected, there is not a lot in our data base, but i will read up and try and help out as best i can.

Mark the part in question does not apprear in the pic. The storage compartment is in the trunk and the lever in question is typical of convertible storage units. The storage unit is a recepiticle for the actual top and does not effect the operation of the top (unless the storge compartment is retracted and thereby not allow the top to be dropped )

OK, I will look at Mitchell 1 and see what I can find, just to make things a bit easier what variant of the A4 do you have, A4, quattro, Avant quattro? Don't know if it makes a difference or not, but these are the variants in the data base.
