I was wondering what vacuum hose going bad (if thats at all the problem) would cause not only the brakes to malfunction (pedal became stiff and BARELY stopped the car), but also the engine to misfire... when coming to a stop i had to throw the car in neutral and keep the rpms up to keep it running because at slow idle the engine would stutter and nearly die, i could even hear bursts of air coming from the engine. Any help would save me greatly. thank you.

The brake booster diaphram maybe torn causing hard pedal and large vacuum leak to stall engine.
