2002 Audi A4 engine knocking

This does sound ominous, I would start with a comp test, and check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, if the knock is a deep hollow knock constant with engine speed, this well may be a failed main bearing, you will need a mechanic to listen to this to confirm the diagnosis.
