Had a oil presure lamp come on. Before I got it stopped it made a squlling noise and lost power. I thought the engine was blown. I pulled the valve cover and discovered that there was parts of something plastic in the timing chain at the back of the cams. I pulled the plastic pieces out and tried to start the car. No fire at all. Any ideas of what might have happened,

Any number of horrible things could have happened to that engine.
You may have had a tensioner failure due to the lack of oil pressure, which might explain the plastic pieces. But there is most likely bearing, turbo, and valve damage.
