1993 Audi 90 NEED HELP REPLACING A TRANSAXLE

TRANSAXLE CAME APART ON THE WHEEL SIDE. CAN'T FIND ANY REPAIR MANUALS IN LOCALE. WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS. I CAN TURN BY HAND BOLT HEAD LOCATED OUTSIDE/CENTER OF WHEEL. IS THIS O.K.? HOW HARD IS IT TO DISCONNECT TRANSAXLE FROM TRANSMISSION? ANY THINGS SHOULD I BE AWARE OF WHEN REMOVING THE TRANSAXLE?
