Anti-theft system?

What does the security light do when you use the key? What does the starter do? The factory immobilizer disables the fuel system, so the engine doesn't run, however it doesn't disable the starter. So, if you try the key and the starter does nothing, that isn't the immobilizer. What is it doing? Reply and we can go from there.
