Rings appear around all my gears on my dash and start flashing with my fuel rang looking like - - - then saying the the rang again. While saying may not restart. On top of the ABS light coming on and the traction control light. The ABS light only come on when the anti-theft light stuff happen. It still started up, but I changed the key out it went away for a little then came back on saying and doing the same thing. Now my battery went dead. It still starts up. I’m thinking about changing out the ignition cylinder?

Good morning,

The first thing I would do is to charge the battery back to 12.6 volts.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-charge-your-car-battery

Then check the charging system to be sure the alternator is working.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-alternator

This would explain a lot of the issues. Low voltage will cause all kinds of issues as the modules cannot function without the correct voltage.

I just replaced the alternator a month ago. I’m replacing the battery today. If I still have the same problem what should I do next?

Another thing is, I have to turn the key over once or twice before it turns over. After starting as long as it don’t sit for a long time it will fire right up. Also have a lean code bank 1 and 2.

What are the codes?

Replace the battery and check the voltage at the battery with the engine running.

Codes are po171 and po174. Some research says it’s a vacuum leak or mass air flow sensor.

Okay, thanks.

I would check the fuel pressure. That is a common cause for the code.

Yes, it could be a vacuum leak. You need a scan tool to monitor the long term trims.

I sent you a guide for checking the pressure. You need a gauge as the needed pressure is very specific.

You may be right about the lock cylinder it is common for the 2 wire to fail and cause this issue.

Is it common for the car to still start? So like a warning that it’s going out.

If the wires are broken, no, it will not start. If they are frayed, yes, it will be intermittent.

As far as the fuel pump, yes, that would cause it to start intermittently.

Okay, by site rules, I can only deal with one issue at a time.

Please send a new question and I will be glad to assist with the A/C issue.

No, not at all. I do not agree with that assessment.

I would replace the lock cylinder.
