A few weeks ago our car started shuttering while giving it gas anytime we went up an incline on the road and seemed like it was smothering and would loose power. A day or 2 later the check engine light came on. Replaced the spark plugs (all 4) and the ignition coils (all 4). No change. Had it checked at an auto parts store and was told the codes were for a MAP sensor, an O2 sensor and that it was running lean. Took it to a shop and had MAP sensor and O2 sensor replaced. No change, still smothering and has no power. Shop advised that it is the catalytic converter. Have continued driving it (it’s our only car and gotta get to work), and it is just continuously getting worse! Have gotten 2 estimates ( $1600 and $1200 but is leaving labor open). Got a third estimate today and was told our car has 2 catalytic converters and gave estimate of $2800! No one, before today said anything about having 2 catalytic converters. We really don’t want to get screwed over if it in fact only has one, but want and need to get this fixed! Once and for all, how many catalytic converters does our car have?
