After pulling back on to the road when shifting gears there was bang noise

An ambulance came by and I pulled over in my F250 Super Duty. I got back out on the highway shifted into gears and there was a slight bang, then it neutral out. Can the transmission range sensor cause that?

I would start by scanning the Powertrain Control Module for codes. What gear was it going into when it went into neutral? The 2-3 shift valves on these trucks are known to be problematic and there are revised design valves for them. This is just one possibility though, and I would still scan it first and go from there.

I have seen pressure control solenoid cause and a gear position sensor that. Here are instructions on how to replace it. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.
